On the rare occasion that we know in advance that it is going to be a nice day outside and we wake up that morning and it actually is a nice day outside we take full advantage of it. On this particular sunny day my friends and I decided to take all of the kids to Kinkade Park. At the park you can follow a paved trail and then take a none paved trail down to the beach. Yes you read that right. Here in Alaska there is a beach with sand and everything. As you get closer to the water there is rocks but most of it is sandy. Ahhhh I love the feel of sand in my toes! The hike into the beach is about 1 mile long with an additional 1/4 of a mile off trail and a two story steep drop down. We packed up a lunch to enjoy there and just relaxed. We spent a good 5 hours there that day and luckily for us no one got sunburned. The temperature was in the low 70's. It was perfect!
I went with my friends Marissa, her little girl Ruby, Erin, and her three boys Ben, Reed, and Liam. My friend JulieAnne met up with us later that day with her 3 kids, Katie, Emma, and Enoch. When we decided to pack up and go home we left in 2 groups the first group left about 15 minutes before I left with JulieAnne and 3 of my kids. On our hike back to the car we came across a moose about 6 feet away from us enjoying a meal in the trees. JulieAnne and I grabbed our kids, shhh'ed them, and pulled them to the other side of the trail. JulieAnne looks at me and asks what we should do. I said be quiet and just keep moving. A moose is not something that you want to have an encounter with. But at this point our only options are move forward or go back. Luckily all of the kids stayed really quiet and we were able to hustle past the moose as fast as we safely could. It really was the perfect day for the beach. Blue skies and in the mid 70's yes please!
Tyler decorated his face with war paint or sand. Whatever you want to refer to is as is ok with me.
Ella and Katie out in the ocean. She kept begging to go out further and further.
Natalie decided to dig herself a whole. I am still unsure why but she enjoyed herself and that is all that really matters.
The shore line was rocky but when you went in about 4 feet it wasn't that rocky anymore. Tyler and Ben spent most of their time out there in the water. They skipped rocks and tried to see who could throw the biggest rock the furthest.
Ella spent just as much time in the sand up the beach as she did in the water. This is her with my friends kids. They are trying to bury themselves.
Natalie and Nichole spent most of the time on the blanket hanging out with the adults.
Ella liked burying her feet in the sand. It is after all the best way to get a pedicure!
These 2 little ones liked skipping rocks in the ocean.
This is about all I saw of Tyler and Ben. They stayed out there the whole time.
The one and only picture of me from that day!
It was a fabulous day. I had such a great time and can't wait to go back next summer. I am just not sure that there will be good enough weather again this year.
