Every time I move to a new place and I see a sunset I think there is nothing like a (insert previous place of residence) sunset. But I can say with much authority that there is nothing like the beauty of an Alaskan sunset. I don't know if I can move again and think that that new place's sunset is the end all be all of sunsets anymore because I have witnessed Alaska's. The vibrant colors as the sun goes down over the tree's is so breath taking. I wish I could capture it to its full beauty with my camera. But alas, I can not come close.
Yesterday I put down somethings that I refuse to do here in Alaska. Here are somethings that I want to do...
1. Go dog sledding. Now, I have tried to accomplish this goal twice already. The first time being way too cold for me to go (it was -15. Yes that was a negative in front of the number 15. As in 15 degrees below 0). The second time I arrived too late to be able to go. Good thing I have 3 more winter's to accomplish this.
2. I want to go to North Pole, AK. Which as luck would have it (and finances hold out) we should be going this month. I am crossing my finger's on this. It is really hard for me to want to go when gas is 4.10 a gallon right now. But it should be fun.
3. Participate in the running of the reindeer during the iditarod celebrations. Think running of the bulls but not so violent and scary.
4. Watch someone join in the polar bear club. Notice that I didn't say that I wanted to join in the Polar Bear club. Way too cold and way too wet for me.
5. Go on a bush plane ride over the bush. Not as dirty as it sounds people.
6. Go hiking on a glacier. I am still astonished that I can even do that. I can go hiking ON a glacier.
I have got myself all psyched up to do these things. Hopefully I won't disappoint myself and not do them. I am looking forward to summer here. The sun is already staying out for over half of the day and it is so nice to feel the warmth of it. Even though it is only 35 degrees outside it has suddenly turned into jacket weather for me. I can't wait for the bear paw festival which will be happening right down the road from my house over the 4th of July! And I can't wait to watch the fireworks at dusk because the sun never does fully go down. I have heard that during the summer it is best to set an alarm to remind yourself to put the kids to bed because it is still just so sunny and nice outside you forget that it is night time. How crazy is that? Now I am just babbling on. I guess it is time to stop.
