gingerbread houses

I decided to be brave this year and make my own gingerbread houses. They were so much easier then I thought that they were going to be. I decided it would be fun to invite some friends over to decorate with us. We had so much fun. I went a little crazy with the candy but learned a lot about making houses and icing. Tip #1 As soon as you pull your pieces out of the oven put your template over the top and with a serrated knife recut out your pattern. Because gingerbread is going to get puffy and grow a little. But if you can cut it again it will fit together almost perfectly. Tip #2 use hot glue to glue the house together and then cover the glue with royal icing. Of course the glue is not edible but, My kids don't eat the actual gingerbread anyway.Ella, Evie, and Beth decorating the houses.Beth with her daughter Evie.WordThese two little girls really hit it off.Tyler and his house

The kids and their final creations. Of course this is 3 days after we made them so they have been picked over a little. I was able to get to know Beth a lot better. She is an amazing single mom that is such an inspiration to me.
